Cleaning Radiator/CAC

The engine fan pulls air from under engine through the Charge Air Cooler(CAC) and then the radiator. This air usually contain some oil mist from the oil blowby tube (see modification to minimize this problem)  as well as road dirt which then adheres to fins of CAC and eventually plugs air passages sufficient to cause overheating problems. One method of cleaning is to thoroughly soak the fins of both the CAC and radiator will a solution like Simple Green, let stand for 10-15 minutes and then pressure wash from inside the vehicle through the engine compartment.  Be careful with the spray to not damage inside of motorhome.

One can check for cleanliness of these components by backlighting them with a trouble light from within the engine compartment and then going outside to view brightness.

Using this method it is difficult to get at the CAC due to fan shroud interference, etc. An alternative method is to remove the lower panel (bumper) of the motorhome to get a straight shot at the radiator. (Click on Bumper Link below) This can be easily removed by taking out 12 screws that hold it to upper panel and two angles (one on each rear compartment). Remove the marker lights (2) from the inside and lift out.  Note: older model may have an air scoop to remove as well.  check your unit for required removals.
